“Pedestal Thin Dish” Demo Oct 25 WAC Monthly meeting
This month’s demonstration was by Walt Wager. Making an inside out ornament can be tedious and long, but the results are neat. Walt shows us an alternative to that process, resulting in the same effect. He has demonstrated at symposiums and clubs over his career. Rita invited Steve Parker from the Villages woodworking club to do a Demo on Bowl embellishment. He did some spiraling work with a Simon hope tool. Most of us use the Sorby’s. This month's demo features Harold Mills creating a Wedding Goblet with two captive rings from a single piece of wood. He demonstrates how to securely mount a long workpiece for hollowing without stabilizer support and uses common shop tools, including drills, forstner bits, and a router bit, to rough out and shape the cup. The rings are also made with basic tools and sanded using the goblet stem itself . "Celtic Wedding Goblet" Demo at WAC Monthly Meeting 07-23-2025
Rita our club secretary, attended the Florida Wood Turning Symposium in February. Phil Irons did a demonstration on how he makes Caddy spoon. A caddy spoon is a small spoon, used for measuring loose-leaf tea from a tea caddy, a container for storing tea. Hence the name. Rita gives us the basics she used to make hers. In our monthly meeting (4-23-25) Don Geiger demonstrated his method for sharpening. His understanding of the what is needed to put an edge on a tool is unsurpassed. The system is simple and based off the Oneway wolverine system with some jigs you can manufacture yourself. In our monthly meeting Jason Meneely, club member, provides a discussion of designing a turning project. What form and proportion makes an elegant bowl or vase. We often just do what the wood tell us and he is not saying we don't listen but we can influence the final outcome. If you are serious about design it is a good listen for sure. Thanks Jason.
